Chambers show the way to improve regional skills
The Chambers of Commerce for Cambridgeshire, Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk are celebrating being given the green light by Government for their Local Skills Improvement Plans.
The chambers have brought together employers and training providers across the East of England to identify the skills issues faced by employers and discuss local solutions to tackle the issues. Reports on issues, solutions and roadmaps for change were carefully studied by the Department for Education and the chambers have now been given the green light to put their plans into action.
Charlotte Horobin, Chief Executive of Cambridgeshire Chambers of Commerce explained ‘Our chambers of commerce have used our strong links with employers across the East of England to produce reports that provide a deep understanding of the region’s skills issues.’
Denise Rossiter, Chief Executive of Essex Chambers of Commerce added ‘We also have strong links with FE colleges and independent training providers who were keen to find out more about employers’ skills issues and discuss solutions’.
Nova Fairbanks, Chief Executive of Norfolk Chambers of Commerce said ‘the Department for Education has recognised that chambers of commerce are the voice of business across the East of England and are best placed to lead on local skills improvement plans.’
John Dugmore, Chief Executive of Suffolk Chamber of Commerce said ‘Chambers of commerce are local and have a good understanding of their place. This means we were able to use our strong local connections to identify local skills solutions.’
The chambers of commerce will now be supported by the Department for Education to put local skills improvement plans into action. You can find out more about the local skills improvement plans by clicking on the following links.
